NL #36, March 2001

In this issue we present plans for the 2001 Reunion and Annual Meeting, celebrating the Delanos of Maine and their maritime heritage. The New Meadows Inn in West Bath, Maine, will be the location; the meeting will run from Friday afternoon, 3 August 2001 through Saturday evening 4 August 2001. After the introduction of new members, we continue with a discussion of two important publications, our DIFP and the GHAAHD; both are available through the Delano Kindred Bookstore. The DIFP, an important part of our efforts to update and correct errors in the GHAAHD, is our acronym for the book titled PHILIPPE DE LANNOY or PHILIP DELANO OF THE "FORTUNE" 1621 and His Descendants for Four Generations, compiled by Muriel C. Cushing and Published by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. The GHAAHD is our acronym for the lengthy title The Genealogy, History, and Alliances of the American House of Delano 1621 to 1899 (New York, 1899) compiled by Major Joel A. Delano and arranged by Mortimer Delano de Lannoy. This volume is the most comprehensive DELANO family history known to us. Included in this issue is an announcement that Cousin Mary Skinner, one of our contributing genealogists, has just published The Descendants of Jonathan DeLano, Cpl. (1756-1825). There is also a plea for help from our genealogist in documenting descendants of Lt. Jonathan Delano (DIFP #7) and a discussion of the sad possibility of the destruction of the ruins of the Vrouwekerk (Church of Our Lady) - the building where Pilgrim families worshipped with the French Huguenot community before the Mayflower set sail for North America.
