2013 Reunion Information
WHERE: San Antonio, Texas, at the Crockett Hotel
WHEN: September 19 - 22, 2013 The 2013 Reunion Extra newsletter contains the information you need to know about the 2013 DELANO KINDRED Reunion that will be held in San Antonio, Texas, 19 to 22 September at the historic Crockett Hotel. You will note that the 2013 Annual DELANO KINDRED Membership Meeting will be held in conjunction with the reunion at 9:00 AM in the hotel on Saturday, 21 September, 2013. We thank Cousin Elizabeth Clarke and the Reunion Committee for providing the information enclosed in this newsletter.
Many DELANOs came to Texas. At least one (Oliver H. DELANO) fought for the "Independence of Texas" under General Sam Houston. Some served in the Texas contingents of Confederate States Army. Others came after the Civil War, and today they are still coming to the Lone Star State.
San Antonio is loaded with things to do and see. We are fortunate that the Reunion Committee was able to secure group reservations at the Crockett Hotel, located near the Alamo and also close to the San Antonio Trolley Tour Office. You can conveniently arrange to take a tour of San Antonio or a tour of the surrounding countryside. You will find the hotel is located in the center of many of the city's attractions. San Antonio should be a very exciting city in which to hold a reunion. Please note that hotel reservations should be booked by 19 August to secure the special room rate. We look forward to seeing you there!

We often make reference to the GHAAHD, an acronym we frequently use in our genealogical references, which may not be understood by many of our newer members. Another genealogical reference acronym we frequently reference?the DFIP?is also briefly discussed.? We note the achievements and awards received by two of our members in our KUDOs article.? We understand that there are a few ?Kindred Spirit? coins still available, so we repeat the article that was included in the 2012 Membership Directory in case you missed it. DELANO KINDRED "CHALLENGE" COIN
The DELANO KINDRED is pleased to offer this beautiful Challenge Coin as a member benefit to raise awareness and pride for the Kindred organization. This special coin, 1 1/2 inches in diameter, will be a great keepsake for years to come. A limited number of these coins are available and it is hoped that you will be delighted with our decision to promote our family organization in this way. The theme of this coin is Kindred Spirits, which is defined as "people who share a common bond or experience that joins them together on a higher level of consciousness." Being related by direct descent from the Delano family is that common bond. It is felt that this is an appropriate message to send to our members and friends.
Delano Kindred Challenge Coin
Solid Brass "Challenge" Coin depicting the ship Fortune in 1621. Actual diameter of coin is 1.5 inches. The front of the coin depicts the ship Fortune, from an original design by Jeremy Dupertius Bangs. We are indeed fortunate to have such a wonderful friend and scholar with such artistic capabilities. Philippe de Lanoy arrived in America aboard the Fortune in 1621, "a lusty lad of 17." The reverse side of the coin depicts the Delano Anchor Logo adopted several years ago and designed with the help of one of our members. Displayed prominently on this side are the Delano name and the Kindred Spirits theme. We have also included our website address. The use of "challenge" coins dates back to World War 1. Manufactured by SymbolArts, our coins are of the highest quality and are custom-made to our own specifications: die-struck in solid brass, highly polished with fine detail and vivid colors. Owning and carrying such a coin promotes identification and pride of affiliation of a member with the issuing organization as well as reinforcing the core values of that organization.
