NL #42, March 2003

This issue announces that the 2003 Reunion and Annual Meeting will be held in Hyde Park, New York, home of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Background information and travel directions are included. Also in this issue:

  • Descendants of Sergeant Cornelius Delano gathered at his grave in the Duxbury, MA, Mayflower Cemetery with members of the Duxbury Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to dedicate a grave marker in his honor;
  • A story about Cousin Ernie Towers and his current interest in compiling the lines of Francis Swan Delano (GHAAHD pg. 193) who settled in Rumford, Me.;
  • A new Treasurer and some Committee assignments for the Kindred;

The lead story in this issue is the 2002 Reunion and Annual Meeting held on August 9-11, 2002, near Fall River, Massachusetts, celebrating the Delanos in the Whaling Industry. Included as well is a complete report on the Delano Kindred Annual Business Meeting. Also in this issue:

  • A story by Cousin Jon Delano of Pittsburgh, suggesting that all descendants of Philippe de Lanoy offer a Thanksgiving Toast to Priscilla Mullens for luring Philippe to America;
  • A story about Billie Jo DELANO of Millers Tavern, VA (near Richmond), who was selected to participate in the Nationals? 2002 Miss Teen Richmond pageant competition that took place July 7th;
  • A follow-up story about Bertrand DELANOE, the Mayor of Paris, who was recently stabbed in the abdomen at 2:30 a.m. Sunday of 6 October in an ornate salon of Paris City Hall;
  • Restoration plans for Delano Park in Decatur, Alabama;

NL #40, June 2002

Presented in this issue is a preview of the 2002 Reunion and Annual Meeting at the Whites of Westport Regional Hospitality Center, located at the junction of I-195 and Route 24 just east of Fall River, Massachusetts, on August 9, 2002. Included in the festivities: Cornelius DELANO (GHAAHD pg. 250) was honored in a Revolutionary War Grave Marker dedication ceremony scheduled at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, 11 August 2002. Other items included in this issue were:

  • Cathy Dyson of the Fredericksburg, Virginia Free Lance-Star contributed a story about Cousin Reggie DeLano of Fredericksburg. This story was originally published in their August 9, 2001 issue;

This issue presents a brief discussion of the sad events of September 11, 2001. A complete review of the very successful Delano Kindred Reunion meeting at the New Meadows Inn in West Bath, Maine, is up next. A full report of the annual business meeting was included as well. Also noted in this issue was a report that the Captain Warren Delano house, also known as the home of Sara Delano, FDR's mother, was up for sale in Fairhaven, MA, for $529,000. This issue also contains news regarding plans for preservation of the Vrouwekerk ruins in Leiden, an announcement that the 2002 Annual Membership Meeting will be held on Saturday, 10 August 2002 in Westport, MA near Fall River and New Bedford, a listing of new members and departed cousins, a letter to the Editor about Frederick A. Delano, some thoughts on how Philippe Delano might have spent his first Christmas in his new home, and an article from the Los Angeles Times of March 11, 2001 about Capt. Henry Delano Fitch.
